Will Smith & Jada Pinkett Smith Helping Haiti

Posted by admin to Charity

haiti tentsIt’s now been almost two months since the earthquake hit Haiti. One of the many items that the country’s leaders are asking other nations to help to provide is tents. They need these tents to shelter thousands of homeless victims who have been living on the streets of Port Au Prince.

Just recently, Dr. S. Allen Counter, along with Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith, stepped up to the task at hand. Dr. S. Allen Counter is a professor of neurology at Harvard Medical School and the director of the Harvard Foundation. He delivered over 150 tents to homeless families in the Port Au Prince area.

Each of these tents can house a family of six to eight people, and offer them a temporary, dry dwelling location. Most of these tents were generously donated to Dr. Counter by actors Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith. A dozen were donated by children of the Mariah Baldwin Elementary School in Cambridge

Helping the Children in Haiti

will artworkCertainly, Will Smith and wife Jada Pinkett-Smith couldn’t have known just how well-timed their charity work would be.  Beginning on January 8th, Will and Jada joined forces with the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP), along with other celebrities, to eradicate hunger in Haiti.

With this goal in mind, they signed special artwork that was donated to the Nobel Peace Prize concert last month.  The artwork, which Will Smith personally decorated and signed with the words, “There can be no true peace in the world while there is hunger,” is being sold on eBay.

All proceeds from the auction will help schoolchildren in Haiti to have nutritious meals.
