Producers Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith were there to support Jaden, their 12 year old son and the star of the remake.
When asked about her son, Jada Pinkett Smith said, “You know, it’s Will and I… I just felt like two artists would create a little artist. When he was born he used to love dancing to Michael Jackson…. And then as he got older, he had some real skills.”
Will Smith explained that Jaden “didn’t have the shock and the radical life change that child actors usually have coming into the business.’

Their musical FELA! just received three Tony Awards on Sunday, June 13th, 2010 for Best Choreography, Best Sound Design of a Musical and Best Costume Design of a Musical. The musical was labeled as “the most original play on Broadway.”
FELA! was nominated, in total, in 11 categories including Best Musical. The music from the musical was recognized, as well, for giving the musical “a good vibe that helped to tell the story of Kuti.

Posted by admin to Events , Karate Kid , Karate Kid Movie , MoviesOver 800 Dallas school kids enjoyed a fantastic day on May 27th at Cinemark 17 Theater. They participated in a street festival and private screening of the Columbia Pictures soon-to-be-released The Karate Kid.
Organized by the DALLAS Film Society, the event included exciting appearances of Jackie Chan, Jaden Smith and Will Smith.
As Tanya Foster, the president and CEO of the DALLAS Film Society said, “This has to be the very best After School All-Stars program we have ever dreamed of. To be able to create a cultural event like this and to bus in more than 800 kids to see Jaden Smith, Jackie Chan and Will Smith ‘gettin’ jiggy with it’ at today’s celebration and screening was priceless.”
Will Smith signed autographs for kids in the audience and then took the stage to add his support to the new film.

In recent very exciting news for FELA!, the show was nominated for an amazing 11 Tony Awards when the awards were announced on May 4th. The production has received rave reviews since it opened on November 23, 2009, after also enjoying a brief run off-Broadway in 2008.

This musical uses Afrobeat music to tell the story of Fela Anikulapo Kuti’s controversial life as an artists, political activist and revolutionary musician.
Kuti’s music is experiencing a revival at the moment. This is both due to the Broadway musical, and to the release of re-mastered editions of his entire music catalog.
Jaden Smith to be Honored

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Will Smith’s son, Jaden Smith has been named the ShoWest Breakthrough Male Star of the Year. He is receiving this award as a result of his title role in Columbia Picture’s “The Karate Kid” which is scheduled for release on June 11.
As Robert Sunshine, the managing director of the event explains, “Jaden Smith is an exceptional young actor who has delivered a true breakout performance with his portrayal of Dre Parker in ‘The Karate Kid.’ ”
