How did Will Smith and James Lassiter begin their working career?  How did the two even meet? It started with James Lassiter becoming friendly with Jeffrey Townes at university.  He was, at the time, rapping with Will Smith who was then into the music world.  So this led to the meeting between Lassiter and Smith.  Some time later, Lassiter started working for Smith as his road manager.  This relationship endured for 20 years.  Although he also worked for other companies throughout the years, it was with Will Smith Lassiter always went back to as a business partner.

One of the producers of the upcoming Karate Kid movie, out on June 11, 2010, was James Lassiter. Lassiter – apart from being a movie producer and having connections with the Karate Kid – has also actually been doing business with Will Smith for many years. Will Smith and his family have big involvements in the new movie. Firstly, it is his son Jaden Smith who plays the leading role of the karate kid in the movie. Second, Smith and Lassiter work together as two of the producers.

The big news yesterday was the screening of Columbia’s Big summer picture, The Karate Kid, starring Jaden Smith, Will Smith’s son, and Jackie Chan.

Jaden was named as the recipient of the ShoWest Star of Tomorrow Award. Before the film screened, Will Smith, Jaden Pinkett Smith and Jaden Smith came on stage. Jaden was given the award and he took the microphone to say a few words. He said, “My dad wrote me a speech with a whole lot of funny things in it, but I’m 11 and I’m nervous, so thank you!”

Will Smith and his son Jaden are on location in China, filming the remake of the Karate Kid.  While Smith is producing, his son Jaden, is receiving expert training from the one and only Jackie Chan.  Last time Will and Jaden teamed up for The Pursuit of Happyness, the movie grossed a total worldwide box office of $304,286,036.  Should be interesting to see what kind of “punch” this team can deliver once again.
